Four years ago, Ariel Salinas, with the help of his mother, opened a small shop in which he sold grocery products. Months later, several supermarkets opened in the same area, consequently reducing his sales. Ariel’s dream was to have his own butcher shop, a very ambitious project given his income barely sustained the grocery shop.
It was during this time that he learned about Fundación Progresar, and formed the Group “Los Amigos”, with which he obtained his first credit, entirely dedicated to start his dream. First, he invested in basic meat cuts and slowly he added a new variety of cuts. At the same time, he was seeking for a strategy to overcome the competition of supermarkets. In order to do this, he analysed the needs of his customers and decided to open his shop in the times of the day that the supermarkets were closed. This allowed him to have a growing amount of loyal customers. Additionally, he incorporated fruits and vegetables to his grocery-butcher shop.
His strategy worked, and Ariel showed this form of work to other shops in the area, who in turn approached Fundación Progresar for a credit.
Today, two supermarkets have shut down their businesses, while Ariel has a monthly income of Arg$ 2.015 and has obtained his 16th credit with Progresar, which he used to replace his fridge. Ariel has faced all adversities and has been able to move on, using his best weapons: his perseverance, hard work and ability.
