How we work

CEF is developed with the financial support of the Comisión de Desarrollo Social, formed by IAE Business School former students.  The program is being developed in Derqui and more recently Matheu with the aid of a team of 7 volunteers. Our work is developed basically through three main activities:

1. Monthly payment of the scholarship: a monthly amount of money is given to the student in order to cover his school materials or the school fee. We believe that fostering responsibility in the student and his family is a basic aspect of their personal development as well as the creation of social capital in their communities. This is why we insist on giving the money to each family and not directly to the school. This is really important so that the beneficiaries may value the help they are receiving and be responsible for it.

 2. The Agreement: as part of the commitment of the family with the child’s education, and with the idea that the scholarship has to contribute to both the student’s and family’s development, we designed a system of conditions consisting in:

The students: they must go every Saturday to the EPC centre of Progresar which helps complement their education with a personal follow up and great activities.

The Parents : first, they have to participate in monthly meetings coordinated by the program’s tutors. The goal of these meetings is to provide a place where parents can share their fears and develop values and virtues such as punctuality, responsibility and the important of education as a value. Second, they must also participate in a monthly workshop where we discuss different issues which are of importance to them and have a direct impact on their daily realities. These workshops are directed by professionals in different fields such as nutrition, health, family communications, etc.

3. Follow up: in order for the program to be successful and to be able to measure the results, we relieve a close follow up of students and their families is fundamental. We do this follow up by means of four tools:

  • EPC Program, where we have direct contact every Saturday with the students.
  • Meetings and Workshops with the parents.
  • Meeting with school authorities who provide information on the students progress .
  • Meetings with a social worker who visits the families twice during te school year.
